BCK SELECTA EXPRESSO

APO

A relative newcomer in the industry, APO continues to grow and expand its product line. Former Apocalypse frontman Regis Rolland uses his years of experience to help the company flourish. The brand is well represented in Canada by a stacked team of French-Canadian shreds.
Highlights?
The DarkMilk and BCK feature the Expresso binding concept, which has the best of both worlds. With its ratcheted two independent straps, it is as comfortable, customizable and precise as a normal binding, and you can fit your foot in from the top when in powder snow or steep slopes. Because it’s a rear-entry binding with a toe strap that blocks your foot in the right place, once the binding is set up, you have unparalleled speed of fitting in one simple movement. You only need to lift up the lever behind the highback without effort.
New Technology?
We have been developing a new wood core called Ultra Comb for a few years, and it comes into our range for 2007-08. It’s a mix of two kinds of poplar wood with a honeycomb. The board is lighter, gets more pop, and also has a faster reaction. It’s available only in our LTD model.

ARBOR

After 12 seasons, Arbor’s desire to expand in new and different directions is stronger than ever. Arbor believes that certain environmentally friendly, natural materials radically improve both style and performance. Its goal is to provide a functional “green” choice that customers are demanding with a louder voice.
Highlights?
We’ve expanded our line to 13 unique boards specifically designed for freeride, all-mountain, freestyle and women-specific riders. Each board has a range of EcoTechnologies, such as bamboo struts and koa wood-butter beams that vary how a board responds and functions. There are also wide and mid-wide models for our larger-footed friends, as well as lower price points for those just starting out.
New Technology?
Arbor has used its exclusive wood-veneer topsheets to differentiate the brand both technically and aesthetically. Now, a new inlaid wood-top technology allows us to take this concept to a whole new level. We developed a way to inlay a variety of environmentally friendly wood veneers into the design, telling a more elaborate story with the Cadence, Wasteland and Crossbow.

BURTON

Once again, Burton rolls out an impressive product line in 2008.

Highlights?
E.S.T. is the world’s first true board-to-binding system,a revolutionary new technology that completely changes the way bindings are mounted to the board. The StriaTM, X8™, Jeremy Jones and UnInc™ boards all feature a single channel for mounting bindings, which replaces typical inserts. The E.S.T. binding hardware is on either side of the baseplate to allow for fine-tuning stances without unstrapping. A new, cushioned SensoryBED™ replaces the rigid baseplate found on traditional bindings, giving the ultimate in board feel and response. Also making its debut is the Speed Zone™ strap technology on the P1 SZ and Escapade SZ bindings, which is faster and more powerful than traditional strap and buckle systems, allowing riders to dial in the optimal fit with less effort.
Burton’s ‘08 boot offering will make feet happier than ever before. The Imprint Liner series will allow riders longer days on the hill, with less impact to their bodies. With help from Therm-ic, the women’s Supreme Heat boot has an integrated heating system to keep toes toasty all day long. On the men’s side, there’s Airframe II™ Cushioning System on the SL-10™ boot, the most ergonomically precise boot ever, allowing riders to attack any terrain with unthinkable control and comfort. The same cushioning properties developed for boots has now been adapted to the surface of a snowboard. Smooth Ride™ technology is a new dampening system on Burton’s T6. Removing chatter, vibrations and shock, riders will be able to react quicker, go bigger and ride faster.

dc

Not only is DC keeping your feet warm and comfortable, it’s looking after your life by putting in the Recco Avalanche Rescue System into its boots in case you get caught in a slide.
BIGGEST NEWS?
At DC, we know research makes the difference. It’s the key to creating better snowboard boots. Over the past year we paid close attention to our riders, reps and retailers, using their input as the main source in the development of this year’s line. Recognizing the needs of riders, DC’s winter 2008 snowboard boots have been developed with innovative technological features, a new liner program, and the widest range of performance snowboard boots in DC’s history. We consider this year’s offering our strongest yet.
New Technology?
The Recco Avalanche Rescue System is located in select boots. This system helps track riders if they are caught in an avalanche. While keeping durability and style top of mind, the driving theme in the creation of this year’s boots was a focus on fit and feel from the inside out. We analyzed how the foot bed goes into the liner, the liner goes into the boot, and then the foot into the boot. From research and feedback from our pro snowboarders, we developed an entirely new liner, the Alpha. The Alpha has unprecedented support and a fit that molds to each rider. It now sits as DC’s most advanced liner.

deeluxe

Deeluxe has been making quality snowboard boots for over 10 years. Based out of Austria, Deeluxe offers a wide range of boots for all levels of riders. The Section Control Lacing system means you don’t have to get your dad to tighten your boots to get that snug fit anymore.
Highlights?
The biggest thing we’re really stoked on is the fit of the boots. Deeluxe boots have an amazing fit, allowing you to adapt the boot to your specific foot shape. It’s all about customization.
New Technology?
After several years of development and never-ending discussions with team riders, technicians, marketers and also patent agents, Deeluxe has succeeded in creating the Section Control Lacing system. SCL simply combines one lace and divides the boot into three different action zones at the same time. Instead of having to fool around with laces, SCL allows you to pull the two lace handles and tighten the boots to your preference. Getting out of the boot is just as easy; just pull on the loop at the top of the tongue and slide your foot out.

DRAKE

Drake is back for 2007-08, incorporating new technology to make its baseplates even lighter. It’s also bringing back the low-back on its Team binding. Maybe it’s time to pull those super-baggy pants out of the closet again.
BIGGEST NEWS?
This year we have made all our nylon bas eplates even lighter without compromising strength, durability or vibration dampening. By injecting our baseplate with a new nylon composite, we’ve made them not only lighter but stronger than ever before. To back up our program, we offer a lifetime warranty on all baseplates and heel cups.
Any team-designed products?
This year, we did a focus group with our team riders and got their input on the Team binding. As a response to their request, we developed a new low-back on our Team bindings that allows more versatility in riding and range of motion when slaying the park, rails or whatever other urban poach spots you can find.
New Technology?
All our straps are now fully adjustable without using any tools. This not only makes it easier for the shop kid to adjust bindings in the store, but for anyone who wants to make a quick adjustment from backcountry to park without going into the shop. These straps come pre-curved, and are convenient and easy to adjust

dwd

Snowboarding is supposed to fun, right? It seems pretty clear that Dinosaurs Will Die proprietors (and pro riders) Jeff Keenan and Sean Genoveese live by the “have fun” motto. So, if you don’t like to have fun while you’re snowboarding, you probably shouldn’t buy one of its boards.
Biggest News?
Two new boards added to the line, two pro models, two years behind us, and the whole “two is more” mentality.
Highlights?
After 2.5 years (exactly) of testing on lab rats and squidys, we’ve found evidence that people like to play peek-a-boo.
This season we will be bringing the “peek-a-boo” theory to the mountains by making the focus of the art on the snowboards the base, enabling the rider to jump their DWD snowboard into the air to reveal the base art and yell, ”peek-a-boo.” These joyous cries will surely make a lot of people happy with last season’s “funk” board upset. We will be weighing the success of this theory by the amount of hate mail received.

ARTEC INVERSE TRINITY

elan

With one of the biggest snowboard factories in all of Europe, Elan is putting some super-tech boards out onto the market. The 2007-08 line features improved, high-quality product for all riding levels.
Highlights?
The world’s lightest snowboard, the Inverse, gets even lighter than last year due to new Carbon 360 laminate. The Artec 4.1 is an amazing technical freestyle board with our new Asymmetrical Omega Sidecut, twin-tip shape, and new blunt tip and tail design. The Trinity is the lightest women’s freestyle board with new twin-tip shape, blunt tip and tail design, and patented Advanced DG Top technology for superior lightweight construction.
Any team-designed product?
The Artec Team board is designed by our international team, including Canadians Neil Connolly and Martin Gallant. The Elan Chicas line is developed with the input of Dominique Vallée.
New Technology?
The world’s lightest board, the Inverse, contains our new Carbon 360 material. The lowest fibreglass laminate is replaced with a full 360 sheet of carbon, enhancing the board’s responsiveness and reducing the overall weight. The new Asymmetrical Omega Sidecut is a more aggressive sidecut along the heel edge that aids turn initiation on the more energy-consuming heelside turn. A less progressive sidecut on the toe edge balances energy needed to turn both ways.

endeavour

With five years under its belt, Endeavor continues to be rooted firmly in the snowboard industry. The owners of Endeavor believe riding snowboards is just as important as selling snowboards and that clearly come across in every aspect of its product line.
BIGGEST NEWS?
Endeavor’s new collection is called the Stormchasers. Scattered across the globe is a group of snowboarders who constantly search for the best snow and terrain. They're relentless, facing all odds in search of the perfect powder day—the type that happens once a year that keeps you energized to chase the storm. It is about struggle, dedication, failures and defeats trumped by successes and victories. Aside from that, we’re producing four models in Vancouver using the signature pre-cured construction, while four models are manufactured in Austria, which feature an amazing clear lacquer coating on the topsheets to avoid fibreglass telegraphing.
highLIGHTS?
Endeavor is introducing the Colour Series to the lineup this year. We’re excited to introduce this series at a mid price-point, as it is the ultimate twin-tip killer. The series comes with a blank topsheet and four paint markers for you to do your own graphics on the topsheet. Endeavor will be recruiting top artists from around the world to do their own graphics on the boards, and will be featured in a traveling art show across Canadian Endeavor dealers. Kale Stephens has also made the legendary B.O.D. Series, his pro model lineup, due to its free-riding roots and stiffness. Look out for Stephens rocking his board next season.

flow

Flow has been getting serious media attention the past year with its deep international team. Not just specializing in bindings anymore, Flow now offers the complete package. The 2007-08 season sees expansion and improvements all across the entire line.
Highlights?
Flow has made significant improvements in aesthetics, technical features and overall performance. We introduced a new internal harness system and a new O2 outsole. We offer many of our models with multiple closure systems such as lace, Boa Coiler and Boa Focus. We'll continue with the overwhelmingly successful NXT series and will introduce two completely new technologies: the new M-Base, which is essentially a less expensive Nylon version of the NXT featuring a similar synchronous adjustment and fixed geometry system that made the NXT a smash hit and the all-new Flite-base will feature a similar but simplified adjustment system found on earlier generation Flite bindings.
Our boards will continue to lead the way in composite technology with the patented Whiskey X technology found in our Infinite WX and Solitude WX. The rest of the line is called Premium series and has been designed to offer the best riding boards for the buck.
Any team-designed product?
After the success of our pro team, we’re launching three Signature series models. The boards have been developed with and around our three top riders. Antti Autti (Team series), Risto Mattila (Infinite series) and the Scotty Lago (Quantum series).

Highlights?
The popular high-end Stream series will offer the HF (Hard Flex) in two models, and the SF (Soft Flex) in three models. The SF fits the industry trend that park and rail riders want—a binding that has all the high-end features and a forgiving flex.
Any team-designed product?
Pat Milbery, who is on Transworld’s “Exposure Meter,” has designed the pro series, the Target. It features the new prototype dual-density TMS Neo strap. He has a distant relative that is Canadian.
New Technology?
The strength and stiffness of the composite base plate is increased by the use of glass-filled nylon, anywhere from 15 per cent in the low end, all the way up to 45 per cent in the high end. Our top-of-the-line binding, the Diamond, has a 30 per cent carbon-filled base plate and a 15 per cent carbon- filled highback. The majority of Flux bindings also offer tool-free adjustment.

forum

You might think being one of the biggest names in the industry would make Forum a little too complacent, but nothing could be further from the truth. New technology in its board, binding and boot lines, and an huge team tour this past fall, prove that Forum is just as hungry as ever.
BIGGEST NEWS?
We’ve worked hard on continuing to progress our cores. One of our new boards, the Seeker, is one of the models built with our latest core development. The Seeker, a super-light, semi-soft twin picks up where the Destroyer leaves off. It also features our new Super Gnar core with Organic MAC. We redesigned last year’s big debut, the MAC (Machined Aerospace Composite) core in our high-end boards to create MAC with balsa wood. The new Organic MAC core offers the advantages of MAC with the feel of an all-wood core. Jargon aside, the Organic MAC makes the boards really light.
HIGHLIGHTS?
In the boot category, we are stoked on a new boot with a vulcanized sole. Available for both men (the Substance) and women (the Melody), it has a simple, low-tech look, but it works like a modern snowboard boot. It’s a great boot for beginners on up, with great value. Our new Speed Lacer system is user-friendly and offers many more options than the BOA system we’ve used in the past. The Speed Lacer shows up on the Kicker boot for the guys, and in the Stampede and Promise for the ladies.

DANNY KASS RIDERS CHOICE STREET SERIES

gnu

Gnu snowboards are hand-built by snowboarders with jobs in the U.S. Unless, of course, they are built by robots. Gnu intends to dominate!

Biggest news?
The Magne-Traction series: the Danny Kass pro model, the Hampus Mosesson pro model, the Barrett Christy pro model, the Riders Choice, the Eleven Up and the Carbon Beam.
New Technology?
Magne-Traction is geometry based around the mechanics of snowboarding. Most boards have a sidecut based on ski theories of one pressure point—the boot—inputting power into the board. Snowboarders have wide stances that make it difficult to apply pressure to the board between the bindings. Magne-Traction directly addresses that issue by abandoning antique ski theories and creating genuine snowboard geometry.
Magne-Traction has seven specific bumps along the length of a sidecut, each designed with a specific size and purpose. The three between the feet are the deepest, bringing to life the area between your feet. As you move out towards the tip and tail, the bumps become progressively smaller, making the board more catch-free and freestyle-focused. The end result is a board that turns underfoot instead of from the tip and tail, creating a more intuitive, easier ride and skateboard-like feel. Each bump increases edge aggression like a serrated knife. The result is better edge hold with less effort. Park and rail riders can detune the Magne-Traction and still have better edge hold than a regular board. Magne-Traction has been awarded five Good Wood Awards by Transworld Snowboarding.

Head

Head continues with its Intelligence series of snowboards. The Intelligence chip stiffens the board for increased torsional rigidity and stability. Head is also continuing work on its PX binding line.

BIGGEST NEWS?
We are continuing with our new PX line of bindings that offer a full contact heelcup, which means it comes with an adjustable heelcup and highback for proper boot-highback positioning. It also features a five-hole disc, which helps you adjust your stance angles with only one turn of the screw. The new disc keeps your base nice and flat, no more concave base. Returning is our Intelligence line of boards, which includes the I.CT, Crown and AK. Want more stiffness out of your board? Check out the Intelligence chip technology board.

It’s K2’s 20 year anniversary, will be celebrating it in a big way. This season sees improvements in its board, binding and boot line, highlighted by a reverse camber powder board: the Gyrator.
BIGGEST NEWS?
A stylistic collaboration with Modern Amusement (a California dream inspired by international art, music, technology and design) with the Darkstar board, Formula binding and Darko boot. Distinguished by their attention to ironic detail, sophisticated ease, whimsical nature, graphic energy and sense of humour. Each piece holds an element of surprise and discovery, every stitch has a purpose, and in every detail there is a story to be told.
HIGHLIGHTS?
Inaugurated 20 years ago, the Gyrator is back to redefine how we all ride powder. A surf-inspired rocker built in and reversed camber help you float atop the deepest
powder and explore terrain you have only dreamed about. Although designed specifically for the deep stuff, the Gyrator’s Hyper Progressive Sidecut and Multi Superlight Core keep it manoeuvrable and lively. Auto Binding Technology is our newest innovation in which the toe strap automatically closes and opens with the ankle strap. In short, one ratchet, two straps. Super lightweight performance and unequalled speed, Auto technology hails a whole new generation of bindings. The 2007-08 boot collection sees dramatically enhanced features on every model from the new Fast-In Liner Lacing System to the new Vibram Super Light Sole with KGB Technology.

libtech

Banana Technology? Magne-Traction? Sounds like the Seattle-based company continues to think outside the box to design and produce top-quality, hand-built snowboards.

New Technology?
The Lib Tech Experimental Division has been secretly developing Banana Technology for the past two years and has arrived at another major step in the development/evolution of true functional snowboard geometry. Banana Technology, like Magne-Traction before it, begins with the premise that a snowboard is not a ski. Banana Technology replaces camber with rocker curvature between your feet. When you stand on your board, pressure is now applied inward to the edge area at and between your feet as your weight presses out the rocker. The Banana Technology flex pattern is slightly stiffened at the tip and tail to increase pop and stability on big landings.
Magne-Traction is incorporated into the Banana Technology (as it should be on every freestyle snowboard) to improve edge hold and put even more control underfoot at your balance point. The end result is a board that is loose and catch-free, presses boxes, rails and jibs extremely well with the preset rocker, maintains pop with stiffened tip and tail, and turns easily on hardpack. The built-in rocker curve makes the board float naturally in powder, and the firm nose and tail prevent the board from folding in chunky conditions.

DREAM

morrow

As one of the veterans in the snowboard industry, Morrow has been making solid product for the past 16 years. Morrow continues to remain true to its roots by offering quality gear at an extremely reasonable price point. A new focus on women’s gear adds to the line for 2008.

BIGGEST NEWS?
Biggest news? We’ve expanded at both ends of our women’s line, adding additional boot colourways for the entry-level Wildflower package, and a new top-tier board, the Dream. The Hemisphere powder board has been winning so many fans with its fun surfy ride; we’ve added another larger 162 cm size.
Highlights?
The Dream is the all-mountain stick for women looking to push their riding to the
next level. Forgiving yet snappy flex provides the control and energetic response you need to rule the entire hill, and make your fantasy of the perfect day become a reality.
New technology?
This year we’ve gone to 4x4 inserts throughout the board line to add stance options. We have also removed materials from the tip and tail of all the sidewall models, reducing overall weight and swing weight.

NEVER SUMMER

Focusing less on excessive promotion and hype and more on using the highest-quality materials and customer service, Never Summer is one of the world’s premier independent snowboard companies.
BIGGERST NEWS?
The exclusive Carbon VX System is divided into three separate design systems to offer the best combination of edge response, high-speed stability and localized torsional stiffness. A wider version of the SL, the new Legacy, with its deeper sidecut, Carbon VXR system and powerful flex, is the most versatile, high-performance mid-wide we’ve ever built.
Highlights?
The Revolver is a mid-wide pipe, park and rail killer. It is stable at speed and super durable.
Never Summer’s heritage is in big-mountain boards, but with models such as the Revolver, we’re quickly gaining a reputation for our freestyle boards. On the women’s front, we’ve added two new lengths to the Infinity line, named Top 5 Good Wood in ’07 by Transworld Snowboarding. We’re also introducing the Pandora, an ultra-snappy, twin-tip terrain-park destroyer. For all the mini rippers who spend most of their days in the pipe and park, we’re revealing the new 142 EVO Grom, meant for advanced freestyle riders, with its high-speed stability and durability, which are second to none.

EERO

NITRO

As sure as snow falling in winter, Nitro always rolls out a solid product lineup year after year—and 2007-08 is no exception.

Highlights?
The entire line is really exciting. For boards, we’re pumped on the new Eero, MFM and T2 construction. The Eero and T2 share similar design ideas, a low profile nose with our New Progressive tip. It works really well for any type of skate style jibs and presses. Eero’s board is different than the T2 because, as the sizes grow the nose and tail lengths get longer to handle soft snow. The Misfit, Team and T1 will also be solid in our 07-08 lineup. There’s also the new Eero Team boot with the refined TLS lacing system. The women’s Crown boot also utilizes TLS. The TLS system is the fastest and best way to distribute pressure throughout your boot. It also is less prone to coming loose halfway through the day.
The Raiden lineup for this season has been completely refined and gone through a huge weight loss program. Each binding is 30% lighter than last year.
New Technology?
Raiden’s new FTI and FTI AIR chassis comes in three sizes small/medium, medium/large, large. The new Fast Track Interface allows for mirco adjustment to properly place your foot on the board. There are two different bases, the FTI and the FTI AIR.
TEAM-DESIGNED PRODUCT?
The Eero Ettala board, boot and binding, the MFM board and boot, the Andreas Wiig and Janna Meyen pro model board. The Team board.

NORTHWAVE

Focusing on fit, comfort and performance, Northwave unveils another solid lineup for 2008. Going into its 15th year, Northwave has boots that appeal to all riding styles and abilities.

BIGGEST NEWS?
This year we are bringing back the old logo to remind everyone of our heritage in the snowboard industry. Back when snowboarding culture was really starting to form, our brand was at the top of its game, bringing quality boots with new innovations. Fifteen years later, we are still providing the most comfortable, quality and innovative boots in the market.
New Technology?
This year we have two patented products. We’ve stepped our SL2 lacing system up a notch by integrating our patented Spinner technology. Now the spool-like loops spin while lacing your boots, which not only allows the lace to run smoother through the loops, but also avoids lace friction to provide you with a quick and simple way to lace your boots without any hassles. The other new boot innovation is our patented Gore-Tex liner. Built from Gore-Tex material to ensure dryness and warmth, the Gore-Tex liner protects against adverse conditions by locking out humidity and keeping in heat.

  DECADE
LEGEND   TOPAZ

TOUR

olive

Olive is a Canadian company that has been making snowboards and skateboards for over a decade. All of Olive’s boards are handmade in limited amounts, assuring the best possible quality.

Highlights?
The Evolve decks are still an interesting item, and a few changes have been made for the 2007-08 season. The steel edges are stepped up along the length of the board, offering a small gap when riding rails-ledges. This feature gives the rider the ability to hit up everything and maintain sharp edges. New for 2007-08, the stepped-up edge tapers back to base-flat height at the four contact points, making the Evolve deck grip snow like regular flat-base decks.
Any team-designed products?
Matt Domanski has a pro deck designed for big-mountain terrain.
NEW TECHNOLOGY?
Our in-house core production. We hand-select our materials to ensure the highest level of quality. A lot of companies don’t control this and don’t even build their own boards.

omatic

With a team riders Todd Richards, Tara Dakides and Louie Vito, backed by designer Jason Kanes, you know O-Matic is for real. The common thread linking all the riders on the snow and Kanes in the laboratory is commitment. Omatic goes 100%, no matter what.

biggest news ?
For 2007 and beyond, O-Matic will be focused on developing and manufacturing quality products designed and tested by our team. Sounds fun, eh? With that focus, we will become more than just another brand with a sick team and slick marketing. We will be your friends, who just happen to be a quality supplier of snowboard equipment, worldwide.
HIGHLIGHTS?
The Extremo series, when you start crushing jumps like a monster truck, you’ll know why we named these boards the Extremo series.
Are you ready for Nascar speed and kung fu flex? Then you are ready for the Extremo. The boards are made for all-around performance in the park. But you can launch them to the moon if you’ve got the nads, dude. Slippery secret base materials and tri-axial glass construction deliver the one-two punch you need to Nosepress the funbox or blast a Rodeo Rewind. These boards spring like a giant slinky! The new Extremo construction ensures that you¹ll get mega-radical on every hit. Shave some stripes into the sides of your mullet and go get a new O-Matic Extremo—you’ll be styling.

BIGGEST NEWS ?
We exist! This is the first year our boards will be available to the Canadian market.

option

Building off its success from snowboards, Vancouver based Option Snowboards is adding a new lineup of bindings for 2007-08. The new year also sees the introduction of a limited new Option Outerwear line with soft switch technology for MP3 players.
Highlights?
The most exciting product in our line would be Canada’s own Chris Dufficy’s pro model. This board has a coffee theme graphic which incorporates coffe stained cores and coffee beans inserted into the cores. We’re not kidding—a real bean! This thing rides like it is caffeine driven.
Any team-designed product?
We have two pro models. The afformentioned Dufficy board and Jordan Mendenhall’s Motive, guaranteed to make your head spin. We also have a board called the Forecast, which is a collaboration by our entire pro team. They had a lot of input on several features like colour-changing inks and multiple-piece diecuts in the base.
New Technology?
We are bringing back the tried and true Hardwood Power-rail. This feature offers an improved riding feel, improved edge hold and progressive flex pattern, as well as providing superior resistance to side and base impact. Also new is the Fat Freestyle Edge. The thicker edge height is more resistant to damage from rocks or rails amd allows more trips to the tuning shop before the edge becomes too thin. The high chromium and molybdenum alloy steel in our premium Vinson boards does not rust if you accidentally store your board with wet edges.
